Now that spring is here the gardens are springing into life and bursting with colour it’s a great time to be pruning back perennials and certain shrubs. Pruning back penstemons, dead heading hydrangeas if not done already and now we are into April it’s a good time to cut back buddleias, you may know these as butterfly bushes. Fushias should be cut back to 8-10cm above ground level, however if you’re looking for more of a bush from your fushia you can cut back to around 1ft high. Others to be cutting back if you haven’t already are clematis (late flowering types) to around 1-1.5 ft in height, ceratostigma, hypericum and plenty more. Also a great time for lawn treatments too.
