BIRD BOXES

To ensure birds use them every year make sure they are cleaned out during months they are not in use. Bird boxes are great but take that little bit more care when choosing the bird box. Take a few days to see what type of birds visit your garden to see what type of box will cater best. For example, open front box for Robins and Spotted Flycatchers, hole nester boxes for Blue Tits, Great Tits, Tree Sparrows etc.

Encourage more birds with feeders, but more importantly ensure there is plenty of water supply for them, especially in hot summer months. A good way to do this is having a bird bath for them to use.

NATURAL FEED

We encourage our clients to have plants, perennials and shrubs that not only look great in bloom, they also feed the wildlife in the garden.

ENCOURAGE MORE WILDLIFE

There are many things we can do in our gardens to help nature thrive, such as building beetle and bug dens out of sticks. Hedgehogs also benefit the same way but on a larger scale. As well as Bumblebees and Honey bees (that live socially) there are over 240 species of wild bees in the UK that are called ‘solitary bees’ because they make individual nest cells for their larvae. Bee homes and hotels are a great way to encourage these species. All of the above can be built at home, however you can always buy them from your local garden centre.

POND LIFE

Ponds and little boggy areas are a good habitat for frogs, newts, water snails, pond skaters, dragon flies and many more.
